BROWS FAQ

At WINX, we know that getting new brows can make you nervous. We hope that this information will put you to ease in knowing that we are skilled, experienced and talented stylists. Here are a few of the most asked questions. If you don’t see your question here, please ask.

What is the difference between Microblading vs an Eyebrow Tattoo?

A traditional eyebrow tattoo is done with a machine and a small tattoo needle. Since the machine moves the needle to create a series of dots in the skin, it must be shaded, or, completely filled in. The traditional tattoo goes all the way to the dermis, the deepest layer of the skin, and implants pigment – this is why it is permanent. Mircoblading is done my hand so the stylist controls the pressure of the blade and how deep the pigment is implanted. Pigment is implanted in the deepest layer of the epidermis, right before it hits the dermis. As your skin cells rejuvenate and shed, the pigment moves up, therefore, making it semi-permanent.

How long does it last?

The duration of your new eyebrows depend on a variety of factors. Everyone skin heals differently, this is why a touch up is essential. Aftercare is very important to follow after having your brows done. Any picking or scratching of the brows during the initial healing period can adversely effect the pigment and the skin in this area. If you use anti aging products such as retin-A, your brows will fade faster. Certain medications can also cause your skin to cycle more quickly.

Does it hurt?

We do use a topical anesthetic 30 minutes before we begin the procedure and continue to use a secondary numbing agent throughout the procedure once the skin is broken. Some clients describe it as experiencing a mild discomfort, similar to being pinched by a toddler. Once finished the pain is gone with a mild tenderness in the area.

How do you pick a color?

Generally speaking, we match the color of the pigment to the color of your natural brows. Based on our makeup artistry background, we have extensive training in color theory.  We choose a color for your new brows taking in to consideration your desired look, skin undertones, skin texture and hair color. We have a variety of colors in both cool and warm tones to create a beautiful customized look.

What are touch ups? Do I need one?

The Microblading procedure is a TWO APPOINTMENT procedure. Skin can be tricky and we are only able to do about 70-80% of the strokes on the first appointment. Touch ups are essential for your stylist to assess how your brows have healed and to add more hair like strokes to complete your look. Touch ups are done about 6 weeks out from your first appointment. At this time, changes to shape and color can also be made. At WINX Lash and Makeup Studio, your first touch up is complementary.

How long does it take?

The entire procedure takes about two hours to complete. The first 30 minutes consists of numbing the area and paperwork. Next is the measuring and shaping of your new brows. Once you approve the shape and color, the actual blading begins. Usually three “passes” are done to create the new brows. Clients with little or no brows can take longer and require more passes with the blade.
